Tamale Pie

Serves 8 to 10
bullet1 lb hamburger
bullet1 cup chopped green pepper
bullet1 chopped onion
bullet1 clove garlic, minced
bullet1 16oz can of tomatoes
bullet1 6oz can of tomato paste
bullet1 12oz can corn, drained
bullet1 can sliced ripe olives (optional)
bullet1 Tbsp sugar
bullet1 tsp salt and a dash of pepper
bullet2-3 tsp chili powder
bullet1 1/2 cups sharp American cheese, grated
bullet2 cups cold milk
bullet3/4 cup yellow corn meal
bullet1/2 tsp salt
bullet1 Tbsp butter
Brown the first four ingredients together. Drain the fat and add the tomatoes, tomato paste, corn, olives, sugar, salt, chili powder, and pepper. Simmer 20 minutes until thick. Add cheese and stir until melted. Pour into 9 by 13 inch baking dish.

Make cornmeal topping by heating milk in double boiler; add salt and slowly stir in cornmeal. Cook and stir until thick (about 20 minutes), add butter and spread over top of meat mixture. Bake at 375 deg. for 40 min.
