Subject: Source for buckets
I have found what appears to be a mother lode of once-used food grade plastic buckets. A bakery here in town generates about 20 or 30 a day. I can put you in touch with the manager there. E-mail me or post here for that information. I picked up about 200 or so today, and he had many more left than I took. They have had food products in them, but have no strong odors, and have been stored inside. I think a good scrubbing, and one of the new lids that Al Durtchi (Sp?) offered from waltonfeed would give someone a fine storage container. If anyone has any ideas on how to "add value" to these things (internal compartments?), please e-mail me or post it here. I'm thinking that these "improved" buckets would be a seller at flea markets or gun shows.

Subject: Lids for used buckets
These guys have buckets and lids at a fair price. If you can not get enough folks to buy a truck load of buckets it does not pay to ship them, buy them local from a paint store and use Al's Mylar bags. Lids on the other hand can be shipped UPS and they have those Gamma lids. Call them for info on the Gamma lids.
Sorry Al, but I know that some people need the 2-3 dollar savings on the gamma lids.

Subject: Plastic Containers Galore
Dear Folks: If you need access to free plastic containers your local donut shop, "Pizza Hut" or grocery store deli and bakery should be able to provide all your needs.
Go straight to the top--contact the manager of these places. Tell him/her you would appreciate any and all containers. Meet them in person and hand them your name and phone number on an index card. Suggest they tape it by the phone. Assure them you'll pick them up on a regular basis. Then, keep your word. These folks can get in trouble if they have loads of dirty buckets sitting around (health inspectors).
I've gotten 6-gallon pails with lids from the donut store, l-gallon glass and plastic jars with lids from the pizza shops and deli's, and 4-gallon square plastic containers with lids from the bakeries. These items are all food-grade. I scrub all mine with hot, soapy water inside and out. A product called "goo gone" will take sticky labels off plastic buckets easily. Squirt a little on and let it soak. In a few minutes the label will lift off easily. Most other labels will soak off in hot water. I soak my containers after scrubbing with a little bleach to disinfect. After this, if any plastic containers retain a smell, fill them with crumbled newspapers and put the lid back on. Set these aside for a couple of weeks in a warm spot. Most times it works.
If you find people that supply these things to you, don't forget to send them a note and let them know how much you appreciate their efforts. You don't have to spend a lot of money on your storage containers if you use your "noodle".
Consider these methods "random acts of survival" ha ha. Hope this info helps.

Subject: Where To Get Goo Gone
I bought my Goo Gone at our local hardware store. I've seen it at grocery stores, too. Our local Meijers carries it, as does a chain of fabric stores called "Jo-Ann Fabrics."
My bottle has lasted me about five years and I use it all the time. It was about four dollars when I bought it. When you use it on plastic bucket labels, it will soak right through the paper label into the glue and dissolve the glue. It really makes cleaning the outside of the buckets a breeze.
Hope you can find it. It's made by the Magic American Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. MADE IN USA!!
Peggy

Buy those buckets and sell them outright to people at the flee market, or better yet at the gun shows. I think you would have no troubles. Must try it a little, of course with the good lids. then if it does work as well as I think it will, go big with it and even put some ads in the local 'penny' papers.

Why would these buckets sell at gun shows? What is the connection?

Subject: Why gun shows?
People frequent gun shows with money in their pockets. A larger than typical percentage of the people attending gun shows might be considered to be survivalists, or at least interested in emergency preparedness. If there were ever one of those "preparedness expo's" down in my neck of the woods, that would be even better. I've thought (briefly) about engaging a meeting hall and sponsoring one. If you've never attended a gun show, you owe it to yourself to see absolutely unfettered capitalism in action.
