Subject: Rover as food storage surrogate

Many people are timid when it comes to starting a storage program. I have heard that dog food is edible and will sustain life. Would it be possible to buy a few extra large bags of dry food for your dog and begin feeding him out of the most dated bag? When the bag is empty open the next oldest one and buy a new one for storage. THe point of all this is that when the crisis occurs you may have a hundred pounds or so of edible stuff that doesn't cost much. Also, it is easier to learn how to rotate your stock into your pet's diet than trying to figure out how to rotate dated grains into your own.

Commercial wild bird seed is available in bulk at Wal-Mart. It is mostly millet which as far as I know is edible. The bag says that the seed is coated with "vitamins" to improve the bird diet. If this coating is not harmful to us humans one could buy a few extra bags of bird seed and start rotating it through the bird feeder - using the oldest bag of seed when one is empty and replacing it faithfully. When the crisis develops simply stop feeding the birds and figure out how to grind the millet into flour.
